    Outstanding Outback service

The Tilley Outback hat that I purchased in 2010 aged gracefully as the years went by . Eventually the aging process became a little less than graceful and in 2025, after fifteen years of constant use, I decided to write to Tilley Endurables to find out if it qualified for the Lifetime Guarantee.

I was told that it did indeed and that in order to submit a claim I needed to send a photo of the hat with the top cut off. I couldn't bring myself to desecrate my faithful old head-covering in this way, so opted instead to keep wearing it.

By August 2026, however, a few harmless little holes above the brim had finally amalgamated into a single gaping chasm, so I wrote again to Tilley to say it was time to avail myself of the Lifetime Guarantee. I wanted to replace my Outback hat with the new updated Outback model, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to do that, since it was now one of the most expensive Tilley hats available.

You can imagine my surprise, then, when I was immediately told that, yes, A Tilley Outback hat was available in my choice of colour and all I had to do to have it sent my way was pay a modest handling fee, draw an X inside the crown, write the date underneath and submit a photo. Not only was I going to get a brand new replacement hat very similar to it's predecessor, but I was also going to get to keep my venerable old hat intact as a souvenir of years of faithful service.

The replacement hat arrived promptly and has turned out to be everything my old hat was,…

    Solid hat

I like it, its a well made hat, but definitely runs a little tighter than my other tilley hats that are the 1/8 larger. Typically i wear a 7 1/2, and I ordered a 7 3/8 for a slightly more snug fit, and ive found the 7 3/8 fits like a 7 1/4. It definitely still fits, so I'll be keeping it, but I would go 1/8 larger if I was to order it again.

That being said, it stays put in heavy wind, and is pretty good at repelling rain. If you wear a hooded jacket alot, i would go with a different style though as the back of the brim rides pretty low and gets caught in my hood.
