Handcrafted in Canada with Care
Most Tilley Hats are born from a process involving 41 steps, 23 sets of hands and 15 pieces of fabric/notions. All Hats and Caps are made in Canada with the exception of the TF1 Fedora and TOS1 Oslo Hats, which are handcrafted in the USA. The fabric for each Tilley Hat style is rigorously tested for durability, breathability, sun protection, comfort and of course, good looks!
Sun Protection
We all know how important it is to stay protected from the harsh rays of the sun. With a Tilley Hat, you are protected at UPF 50+, the maximum UV rating given to Hats and clothing. The Canadian Dermatology Association, The American Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologists around the world recommend wearing wide brimmed hats, especially between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm when the rays of the sun are strongest. All Tilley Hats protect your face and ears from the sun and range from 2” brims all the way up to the formidable LTM2 with its 3 1/2” sides and 3 7/8” front and back brim. With a variety of styles, colours and materials to choose from, it’s easy to find a Tilley Hat that protects you from the sun and accommodates your lifestyle.
You still need SPF 30 sunscreen and sunglasses with UV filters! Children especially need the UV filters in their sunglasses as non-filtering glasses will increase the size of their pupils, allowing even more of the damaging UV rays to enter.
Closely woven sun-protective clothing is also a must. Just for the record, many Tilley clothing items are also certified UV protective.
Protection Against Mother Nature’s Ups and Downs
All Tilley Hats are water resistant, but for those really rainy days you may want to consider our TWP1 Waterproof Hat; the first Tilley Hat that is 100% waterproof. As for the rest of our Hats, be assured that whatever Mother Nature dishes out, your Tilley Hat will be there for you, if it’s worn properly. Wind cords will keep your Hat in place during breezy days; one cord in front, one cord behind and your Hat is secure in the strongest of winds. As a back up Tilley Hats float should they happen to end up in the drink.
For the colder days, we have a full range of Winter Hats, complete with all the ‘bells’ and ‘whistles’ of our regular Hats. Bring on Jack Frost; we’re ready for him too. All Tilley Winter Hats are designed with tuck-away ear warmers to keep your ears as toasty as the rest of your head. The ear warmers also offer extra staying power on gusty days. (Please note: no real bells or whistles are included with Hat purchase).
Document Keepers
All Tilley Hats have a secret pocket (shhhhh!) in the crown to safely and securely store any important ‘stuff’ such as licenses, room keys or $20 (or maybe 20 Euros, 20 Yen or 20 Baht). There have been many stories over the years of some more eclectic items being kept there (fishing lures and once, an engagement ring!). Recently, we have been hearing that MP3 players are finding their way into this convenient spot as well. The secret pocket is an extra handy feature to have when you want to leave your bag behind.

Family Heirlooms
We are delighted every time we hear a Tilley Hat collection has been passed on to another generation of Tilley Hat wearers! Tilley Hats are guaranteed for life not to wear out (as Alex says “Yours, mine or its”). If your Tilley ever wears out (grows holes or frays through wear and tear) then we’ll replace it for free.
Dashing Accessories
To protect you from the sun and rain, Tilley Hats fit lower than others. This also tends to give one a rather dashing appearance! We have variety of fabrics and styles and we are happy to help you find one (or two, or three) that is just right!

Replacing your beloved, worn-out Tilley Hat
Firstly, and most importantly, please re-measure you head. Even though you think you remember what size your Tilley Hat was, it is a great idea to check again. Over time, sizing may have changed slightly for both you and for us. Please visit our Hat Sizing Guide for instructions on how to measure your head.
