A fusion of our popular Airflo® broad brim styling, Insect Shield® technology and lightweight cape design results in the functional and attractive LTM6IS Airflo® Hat.
The odorless and invisible Insect Shield® technology helps to protect you from mosquitoes, ticks, no-see-ums and other biting insects during all your outdoor adventures. The cape fits discreetly into the rear portion of the brim; held in place by dual Velcro® closures. To battle sun, wind and rain, the cape unrolls to protect all angles of the neck and can be fastened under the chin by another Velcro® closure. The Airflo® mesh in the crown enhances coolness and comfort during hot days or strenuous activities. The LTM6IS is engineered from Tilley Nylamtium®, a strong water-and-mildew resistant form of nylon and Insect Shield® technology will keep performing through 70 washings. HOW SHOULD IT FIT?:
Different styles and fabrics of Tilley Hats naturally feel different on your head. For complete instructions on how to measure your head and properly fit a Tilley Hat, please visit our Tilley Hat Sizing Guide.
HERE'S WHY TILLEY HATS ARE ACKNOWLEDGED 'THE BEST IN THE WORLD.'
APPEARANCE AND COMFORT:
To protect you from the sun and rain, Tilleys fit lower than other hats. This also tends to give one a rather dashing appearance!
For your comfort, they're held on by gravity, not painful pressure on your forehead. On a hot muggy day, you'll especially appreciate this!
Even though they fit gently, Tilleys won't fly off because when there's a breeze, you use one or both parts of the tuckaway Wind Cord (see TIES ON below).
THE GUARANTEE:
Tilleys are replaced free if they ever wear out, shrink or fall apart. They're so carefully handcrafted by us in Canada, and made of such strong materials, that many outlive their owners. Final words in the Owner's Manual? "Pass it on!"
INSURED AGAINST LOSS:
We understand the anguish of losing this reliable companion, or of having your dog terminally gnaw it. Should that happen, we'll replace your late, lamented Tilley at half the catalogue price.
With your Hat, you'll be provided with "The Straight-Shooter's Statement of Loss of a Tilley Hat" insurance policy. The insurance is for two years, all perils, 50% deductible, and is not issued by Lloyds.
FLOATS:
A layer of closed-cell foam in the crown, and sometimes in the brim, provides the Tilley's positive buoyancy. This is a boon to boaters and fishermen/women/people. Good grief!
People have told us that this foam layer has helped save their lives. Double your money back if it doesn't save yours. Apply personally....
TIES ON:
The Tilley comes with a tuckaway, adjustable, fore 'n' aft Wind Cord. When it's calm, the Wind Cord stays hidden in the crown. When there's a breeze, place the part with the sliding knots behind your head. When it's windy or you're sailing, use the chin part too.
See the Owner's Manual, which accompanies each Hat, for amplification.
REPELS RAIN:
Not perfectly but usually quite adequately. Happily, the brims of the cotton-duck Tilleys actually become stiffer when they get wet, not floppier, helping to protect your neck, face and glasses.
The Lighterweight Nylon and Nylamtium® Tilleys are excellent at repelling rain.
WON'T SHRINK:
They, in 1980: "Alex, you can't make a cotton hat that won't shrink!"
Me: "But what if we boiled the material first? Mercilessly preshrunk it?"
They: "Well, I guess that would work."
It did and does. Nylon, of course, does not shrink except under extreme heat.
SECRET POCKET:
Inside the crown is a good-sized pocket sealed with Velcro®. In it, carry your I.D., hotel key, $10 bill (in your case, a $20), plus 50¢ for an emergency phone call.
ANTI-SWEAT BAND:
Soft and comfortable, it picks up sweat from your forehead and wicks it away to your temple area where it evaporates.
CERTIFIED SUN PROTECTION:
The fabric of all Tilley Hats have been certified to block 98 percent of harmful UVA/UVB radiation and deliver an ultraviolet factor (UPF) of 50+, the maximum rating given.
You still need SPF 15 sunscreen and sunglasses with UV filters! Children especially need the UV filters in their sunglasses as non-filtering glasses will increase the size of their pupils, allowing even more of the damaging UV rays to enter. This often causes cataracts and retinal problems later in life and has happened in my (Alex Tilley's) own family.
UMPTEEN SIZES:
Most hat makers make 4 or 5 sizes; we make 13, and even individual Hats beyond that size range when necessary.
As a matter of principle, no one shall be deprived of the pleasure and privileges of Tilley Hat ownership simply because of an uncommon head size.
The Tilley Hat fits more comfortably than other hats. It's designed to be worn low on your head and slightly loose. It should be held on by gravity, not by painful pressure on your forehead! For the proper fit, you should be able to easily insert two fingers, flat, between the middle of your forehead and the front of the Hat. The Hat should be loose enough that you can rotate it to the left and right, and lift it up and down, without friction on your forehead. When it's windy, use the cord!
Like footwear, your Tilley Hat must be sized properly. To find your hat size, use a tape measure and draw it right around your head, just above the eyebrows. If you give us the measurement (inches or centimetres) on the Sizing Guide on the website, we'll give you the right size. Or refer to our Hat Sizing Chart
for an easy reference to your Tilley Hat size.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR HEAD:
As mentioned above, a Tilley Hat fits lower and more comfortably than other hats. The lower it sits, the larger at that point is one`s head circumference. To find your Tilley size, simply measure around your head, just above the eyebrows. Tell us this measurement in inches or centimetres. We`ll take it from there.
If you give us the measurement (inches or centimetres) on the Sizing Guide on the website, we'll give you the right size. Or refer to our Hat Sizing Chart for an easy reference to your Tilley Hat size.
4-PAGE OWNER`S MANUAL:
You'll find it a good read. It's also available in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Please specify if it should be other than in English.
BRAG TAGS:
There are 8 of these in the Secret Pocket. You'll have fun with them; they can even get you into trouble, if you wish.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS:
Wash it frequently or non-removable sweat stains will mar it and possibly rot it. Machine delicate or hand wash in cool water. When washing, the cape should be removed from pouch and the Velcro® attached. Do not use bleach as it remains inside the Hat, slowly rotting it. Smooth and reshape the Hat by hand and set it out to air dry. The cape should remain untucked while drying.
MADE OF TITANIUM AND KRYPTONITE:
Hardly! The lighterweight Tilley (LT) Hats are handcrafted of a strong, laminated, waterproof nylon, Tilley Nylamtium®; Our new nylon fabric (93% Nylon, 7% Spandex) is tightly woven with a DWR finish. Other Hats, are created from 10-ounce (per square yard) cotton duck, a tough, soft, closely woven, mercilessly preshrunk, water-and mildew-repellent, canvas-like material. Our hemp hats are engineered from 11-oz. hemp, nature's performance fabric®. Hemp is the world's strongest natural fibre.
