Directing a TV documentary on National Geographic saw me working on both sides of the Atlantic. One of the most amazing locations was Inis Oirr, a tiny island off the west coast of Ireland. A rogue wave sent us crashing into the ocean. My trusty TH5 floated off towards America and I thought that was the end of our 5-year adventure. Two days later I was shooting on the beach when, you guessed it, my Tilley floated ashore and was found by the sound man. But as it had now been ‘salvaged’ the only way I could get it back was to buy everyone a pint of Guinness. After 48 hours in the Atlantic, my Tilley had gained a little more character, but was still in perfect condition.

- For material, we selected the same time-proven fabric that you probably would have: an excellent soft and warm 100% wool, woven for us in Montreal. They know cold and snow in Montreal. Fashion too!
- The earflaps and forehead warmer are made from 100% shearling. The lining is 100% nylon satin and the tabs are 100% leather.
- We hand-sew each Hat using very strong thread; all seams are lock-stitched so they won't unravel. All Hats are made with such care and dedication that one is as good as another

LEATHER TABS WITH SNAP FASTENERS:
They can hang loosely casual or be used to secure the earflaps under the chin or on top of the Hat.

The real shearling earflaps offer not only superior warmth but also gives the Aviator its traditional look. A second, smaller flip-up set of flaps can be secured up or down by a set of buttons and hides a handy set of ear-holes; so you can hear what is going on around you. The forehead warmer is secured by two snaps and can be lowered for maximum coverage from winter's elements.
