You said it

“Our last camping/hiking trip to the Jebel Akhdar Mountains in Oman involved a late afternoon departure from Muscat. We had just taken the turn off to head up into the mountains when we saw a western looking hitchhiker. We often pick up locals, but have never seen a foreigner hitchhiking. A bit strange to be hitchhiking up the mountain so late but we both said, “He must be OK he’s wearing a Tilley Hat.” He got into the car and saw we each had Tilley Hats and said “aah you must be alright you both have Tilley Hats”! True story.

    Love my winter hat

Love this hat, looks good and keeps me warm, only concern is the same as Kyle,s no chin strap! E-mailed the UK Tilley web site about a possible fix but they have not bothered to reply, dissapointed. But hey the hats still great.

Love this, perfect for Nordic winters

Bought this for a trip to the Nordics, minus 26 plus the wind chill to contend with. My Tilley looked stylish as well as keeping me super warm. Ear Warmers worked a treat. Would love the option to have a chin strap, that would have been a help, but really pleased.

    Lighter, but still warm!

Here in Iowa, it gets cold but usually it's just chilly. While my straight wool TTW hat did the job, the new TTW2 lets me stay comfortable for more days out of the year. It fits better too now the forehead warmer is gone. In short, it's the perfect 3-season hat! My only issue is the complete lack of a chin strap. Thank you for sending me the materials to fashion my own. Having one will help with the blizzard going on outside, or those days where I decide that a sub-freezing day is perfect for some top-down convertible driving! Again, great hat and great quality.

    Great Hat

I'm from the deep south so I purchased this hat for a 3 week trip to Rochester NY in Feb. This hat kept my head warm and the ear warmers worked great in the cold wind.

World's Best?

The downward slope of the brim, both front and back, is intentional: the slope protects your forehead and the back of your neck from wind and snow as much as possible. The slope looks rather dashing, doesn't it?

For your comfort, they're held on by gravity, not painful pressure on your forehead.

Your Hat is guaranteed for life (yours, mine or its) not to wear out or fall apart. We're delighted to think that yours may be passed on to the next generation!

With your Hat, you'll be provided with "The Straight-Shooter's Statement of Loss of a Tilley Hat" insurance policy. The insurance is for two years, all perils, 50% deductible, and is not issued by Lloyds.

We understand the anguish of losing this reliable companion, or of having your dog terminally gnaw it. Should that happen, we'll replace your late, lamented Tilley at half the current catalogue price.

The fabric of all Tilley Hats have been certified to block 98 percent of harmful UVA/UVB radiation and deliver an ultraviolet factor (UPF) of 50+, the maximum rating given.

They neatly tuckaway inside the Hat, ready to be flipped down in cold and windy conditions.

The fabric has been treated for rain and snow repellency.

Inside the secret pocket in the crown of the Hat is a thin layer of closed-cell insulating foam. Heat rises, and the foam stores some of it. This dense foam also softens accidental blows to the noggin. From time to time people tell us how the peculiar qualities of their Tilley Hats have probably saved their lives!

I think you'll find it a good read. It's available in either English or French.

Soft and comfortable, it picks up sweat from your forehead and wicks it away to your temple area where it evaporates.

Inside the Hat, you'll see at the back a removable Size-Equalization Device held in by Velcro®. Its purpose is to permit you to maintain the same comfortable size regardless of the ear warmers, or forehead warmer, being up or down.

Inside the crown is a good-sized pocket sealed with Velcro®. In it, carry your I.D., hotel key, $10 bill (in your case, a $20), plus 50¢ for an emergency phone call.

Most hat makers make 4 or 5 sizes; we make 13, and even individual Hats beyond that size range when necessary.

As a matter of principle, no one shall be deprived of the pleasure and privileges of Tilley Hat ownership simply because of an uncommon head size.

Those who wear Tilleys usually have innate good taste, creative minds and uncommon intelligence. Everybody knows that! And the Hats serve to identify such people to each other - immediately.

Because of these exceptional yet shared traits, virtually always, especially in foreign countries, Tilley wearers greet each other. Friendships have been formed because of the Hat, and that can be the nicest thing of all.
