Words from Alex...

”For many years our Socks have been made in Osage, Iowa. How does one pronounce ‘Osage’? This U.S. company makes superb socks, and they were prepared to assist us in making socks to our specifications, as we couldn’t find a Canadian company to do it. (But hey! Iowans are so nice they're practically Canadians anyway!)

Quality items take time to create. People say our Tilleys are “expensive, but worth it.” I’d rather have it that way than any other. We should all be proud of what we provide others.

Reading the comments about the Travel Socks: the majority of people say they dry overnight; a few say they don’t. Perhaps both are right. If you experience some dampness (or are in particularly damp or humid climates), to be on the safe side, wash them in the shower in the morning; wring them, then press them twice in towels, and hang them where it’s driest. Virtually always they’ll be ready to be put on that evening; certainly by the next morning.”

Fabulous, but need them in brown too!

These are the best socks ever. We initially bought them for travel, but now my husband and I wear them exclusively (I like the ankle height ones with sneakers). My husband wears them with business suits as well as casual wear. His only frustration: why aren't they available in brown color as well??? The thick socks and the new cotton-blends come in brown, but somehow not these socks, which are the best of all.

3 Years and Still Going Strong

Ordered khaki and black pair 3 years ago along with the wool blend. Wear to work often (at least twice a week). No holes....all pairs going strong. No complaints at all.

These are probably the best items of travel clothing I own. They are definitely worth the price. If you hand wash them, and then wring them out using the towel method (where you roll them up into a towel and then wring out the whole roll), I've never had them not dry overnight. If you wring them the lazy way without the towel, they usually dry overnight as well. The only criticism I have with these socks is that you get lose strings sometimes, but I'm still confident that they will last at least 3 years, as Tilley claims. I've had them at least 2 years, and they are still going strong. Now I'm back to get some new ones in black.

    Dry over night

Purchased 2 par to take on a 2 week business trip. Each night I would wash them in the sink and would wring them out over the sink and then use a towel to wring them out again and hung them up to dry. Each morning they were completely dry. After two more trips of 2 weeks and 5 weeks with only 2 par of socks I am completely sold. At first they seemed a little tight but after arriving home, my old socks seemed too loose. I will purchase more in the future.

    Easy overnight dry

Actually I washed a pair by hand just yesterday, rinsed and hung them on a rail in the bathroom and they were dry and wearable 8 hours later. I bought my first pair in Medium size 8 years ago. they have been somewhat tight but good for long plane flights. I've since purchased a Large pair and they are significantly more comfortable for adventure travel. The socks are on the expensive side (as are all of Tilley's products), but I find the expense has been worthwhile for me.

    9 years old and counting

Best socks I have ever owned. I am ordering more because I now wear them everyday, not just for travel. Machine wash, air dry. The 9 year old pairs have not stretched out of shape and they still hug my foot perfectly! Throwing out all my other socks.

    Best Sock Ever

I wear a uniform for work. These are my daily socks. I've rotated through 3 pairs over the last 7 years. They still look brand new. As others have said, if you properly wring them out, they WILL dry overnight.

    An AMAZING sock!

If you properly wring out this sock, it will dry overnight - period. But the best thing about this sock is that they are bullet-proof. If you want a daily-wear sock this is the last one you will own. I bought a few pairs 8 years ago and I can't tell the difference from the ones I bought last month - because I have worn out all the other regular old socks. I will never own another pair than this brand. Buying a few for the kids now so they can tell me how many years they get out of these things.

    One hour towel drier?

Thanks Sarah, might be great idea to wring in towel - if the hotel changes it for a dry one in the morning otherwise you're left with a soggy towel to pack in your bag, pukka travellers are not habitual hotel dwellers. Tilley clobber good but after care claims are geared to sales rather than reality.

With a towel, usually dry within the hour

I'm not sure what people are doing that these socks aren't drying overnight - it rarely takes more than an hour if you have a spare towel available. If not, then overnight for sure. These are the only socks I wear period because I like the close fit. My husband wears them for travel but does prefer a softer sock, so only 4 starts instead of 5. Also, as one reviewer mentioned, if your feet/calves swell from flying you may find the socks tight. I only wear the ankle socks, and often my husband will turn down his calf-length socks. So if you're at all concerned and can get away with the style, consider the ankle-length version of these socks.

    Fast Drying Socks

I have tried several brands of socks for travel and these are my favourites. The socks dry very quickly if you ring them out and towel dry them, they will dry very rapidly. They are also very comfortable to wear.

    Tight Mites

Only wear these for travelling, easy to wash in basin or bowl and rinsed in pan! Don't rely on ready to wear after overnight wash - can be damp. Real drawback though is their close fitting - can be a fight to get them on, disadvantage to puffy feet, legs, or elderly/disabled people, they do still travel on, so keep those comfy socks and take extra pairs to allow for drying.

    Fast Drying Socks

They do not dry overnight. following Tilley's instructions on a recent trip, socks took at least 2, and mostly 3 nights to dry. Dissappointing.
